Our Story & Growth
From humble beginnings with just a few founding members, IMDA has expanded fast.
The IMDA began in 2017, founded by a small team of independent dealers who recognised the need for a dedicated voice for independents within the UK motor trade. Their vision was simple — to create a space where dealers could share knowledge, access genuine support, and be represented fairly in an ever-changing industry.
Since then, the IMDA has evolved from a grassroots initiative into a respected, nationwide association. We’ve built a trusted network of members, partners, and advisors, united by the same goal: strengthening the independent sector.
Our growth has been shaped by collaboration and commitment — working together to tackle industry challenges, influence policy, and promote professional standards across the trade.
